Duchamp´s Chocolate Grinder

-Marcel Duchamp created the Chocolate grinder .
-He created his own style of painting and he was fascinated .
-Duchamp explains his transition way from Impressionism toward a Cubist ,and then post Cubist.

This work was inspired by a chocolate grinding machine that Marcel Duchamp saw in the window of a confectioner´s shop in France .The artist rendered the machine in a dry and impersonal painting style ,akin to the precise mechanical drawing found in architectural plans .Duchamp was fascinated with the rotating drums of the chocolate grinder ,which had a sexual connotation for him ,and the machine would reappear several times in his work. Filmed amidst the Arensberg collection at the Philadelphia Museum of Art ,where 35 works by Marcel Duchamp are gathered ,this 1956 NBC interview features the artist talking with James Johnson Sweeney .Duchamp describes his transition away from Impressionism toward a Cubist ,and then post Cubist . Marcel Duchamp explains the design of his invention and how it was formed mechanically . He explain that the white lines on the grinder wheels are made of threads ,like the 3 Standard Stoppages of 1913 ,but here they are sewn through the canvas and pulled tight .
